In 2018, SYO staged The Big Busk to celebrate the talent of our musicians and to raise money to support the future of SYO. The Big Busk engaged with nearly 60,000 people, and was covered by every commercial TV, radio and press outlet, with an earned media reach of more than 5 million people. After the amazing success of last year, The Big Busk returns in 2019, bigger and better!
In 2019, nearly 600 musicians and alumni from the SYO will bring Sydney to life with 10-hours of live performance. We will perform across Sydney’s CBD, including Martin Place, Pitt Street Mall, and Circular Quay. From soloists to quartets, wind ensembles to a full 70-piece philharmonic, The Big Busk will connect Sydneysiders through the emotion of music - everything from Beethoven to Billie Eilish. But this isn’t background music; this is genuine busking.
The Big Busk performers will be giving it their all, to capture the attention of thousands of people and leave a lasting impression on their eyes and ears. This will be foot-stomping, hand-clapping, coin-giving fun all for a good cause!
All money raised will support SYO’s critical business infrastructure, expand our music library, and help us to acquire new and used orchestral instruments.
