WE NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE to give our gorgeous girl Belle the best chance possible of recovering.
Unfortunately Belle had an accident in her adoption home a few months ago and sustained a nasty injury to her hoof - slicing deep through her coronet and heel. Despite vets treating Belle initially - she was returned to us this week with complications. Our vet has xrayed her hoof and diagnosed a condition known as “Quittor” which is basically infection/inflammation/necrosis of the deep cartilage inside the hoof. This is a serious complication of a nasty injury and the prognosis is fairly guarded.
Our plan is to do a surgical curette under standing sedation to hopefully clean out the infection and any dead tissue. She is on very strong antibiotics and pain relief and is having her hoof tract wound flushed in a sterile manner every day-followed by a bandage and boot. We are desperately hoping to see some improvement in 3-4 weeks. If she does not improve - the only other option is very difficult and very invasive surgery under full anaesthetic at the specialist centre.
This is not something we want to put poor Belle through and it carries risks and potential complications. We are asking for your help to help us raise the money to pay for her xrays, $200 of antibiotics, surgical curette and follow up xrays.
We really want to ensure we have tried our best before we make any further serious decisions. So PLEASE HELP OUR GIRL BELLE???
