Our gorgeous Owen was surrendered to us at just two weeks old, due to his deformed front legs. He needed early intervention, as he was unable to nurse from his mother correctly due to his legs, and if he hadn't been surrendered would have passed away. Of course we couldn't let that happen, so in to care he came.
This gorgeous little boy hasn't let his differences slow him down, charging through all his obstacles with endless love and joy.
We knew surgery was in Owen's future, to try and normalise his limbs. His radius on his right forelimb formed outside his leg in utero, posing a danger of snapping as he grew and started to use it - it also meant that his foot formed at an awkward angle, unable to be used properly.
When we took Owen in, the plan was to see how he functioned, and how his limbs changed as he grew. Surgery was estimated to take place once he was over 6 months old, giving us plenty of time to fundraise - or so we thought.
Unfortunately at his latest specialist check up, it was decided we would have to move the timeline up - to today. The muscles and tissues in his foot would otherwise be too badly impacted by the unnatural position, and would not be functional.
So, our brave little man has gone to stay with his favourite specialist team overnight, to prepare him for surgery. He will have his radius brought in line with his ulna (and inside his leg, as it should be) and fused to his wrist. This will, all going well, enable him to use his leg in a much more natural manner.
To be able to perform this life changing surgery, we are going to have to fundraise hard, and fast. If you are able to spare anything at all to this operation, Owen would very much appreciate you helping him get the chance at a pain free life.
