Meet Marley! Our little Marley is only 8 months old, he was purchased by a lady who had him for only 3 weeks before she suddenly, sadly, passed away.
Marley went to live with her son and his family where he was very much loved and well cared for. The family were concerned when he started to show obvious pain when getting up and down, especially after sleeping overnight. A trip to the vet and a series of X-rays confirmed little Marley had Hip Dysplasia (HD).
His new family could not afford to pay for the required operations and after much consideration, contacted us to surrender Marley.
Marley and his X-rays visited South Paws Specialists for a consultation last week to determine the extent of the HD and best way to proceed. Unfortunately for Marley his HD has been diagnosed as severe. His right hip can be corrected with an operation called a “Pelvic Osteotomy”, but left hip is severely degraded and can only be corrected by a full hip replacement.
We have to act fast for Marley, his window of opportunity for the right hip is only 3 - 4 weeks. After this time, the hip will be too far gone and will also require a full replacement.
We have decided that it’s in Marley’s best interests to have his right hip “Pelvic Osteotomy” early next week. The cost of this is approximately $7,200.
His left hip replacement will cost around $8,000, and we are aiming for Marley to have this in around four months time.
After the operation, his foster carer will need to keep him in a crate for a week or so, and then confined to a small area in the house only. His recovery timeframe is around 6 – 8 weeks for his right hip, longer for the left replacement.
Marley is a very happy, healthy 8 month old boy who is a delight to be around. He is currently on pain relief due to the severity of his hip issues.
He’s allowed a short walk each day, with no running or jumping!
Can you help us to help Marley get his new hips and give him a new lease on life?
